Getting locked out?[]

It seems like it's possible to get locked out of completing the game with this quest if you don't have a save game to revert to and save sum to pass one of two skill checks. There are two ways I've found to get in the building. The first I found was climbing (teleporting) up the ladder. I only had the teleport option because of passing a hidden Conceptualization check on it to open the dialog option to "teleport." Climbing/teleporting requires passing a Savior Faire check. I have a 3 in Savior Fair, and with clothing bonuses and a +2 bonus from seeing Tiago at the church, I had a 72% chance to pass the white check on the ladder, which I failed.

Talking to the man and his kid standing by the mural gives you the option to inspect the drainage pipe, which you find doors hidden behind it. Opening the doors requires passing a Physical Instrument check. I have a 1 in Physical Instrument and a +1 bonus from a thought. With bonuses from clothing I could only get the minimum 3% chance to succeed, which I and failed. Kim said something about trying later, so I assumed it would re-open after some time passed. I wandered around looking for other things to do, but all the other quests I had were also locked by failed white checks. I did manage to re-open one, helping Cuno, which unlocked this check and added another +1 for breaking in to his apartment, but I failed it again. I looked for any quests or conversations I might have missed to pass the time and found none. I had ordered a die from the dice maker, which was ready to pick up, and lucky for me turned out to be the one that opens and gives a +1 to the drainage pipe check, but that only brought it up to 17%, which I failed again. I read a book to pass the rest of the day, and neither check re-opened.

I now seem to be locked out of finishing the game. I can not find any other quests to do besides the ones I already have that are locked out due to failed white skill checks. I do not have any skill points to spend, and can not level up without doing quests. Luckily my oldest save is right before trying the drainage pipe doors for the last time, so it seems my only option is to keep re-loading that until I pass it. --Jimnms (talk) 04:14, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

That's... Weird. But it's possible, given the utter complexity of the game and the ability to soft-lock yourself. I'm not sure this is unique to that part, though - I think this would apply to any plot-critical white check. Tagaziel (talk) 21:11, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
