TRANT HEIDELSTAM – Though I understand the socio-economic causes of the Revolution, it pains me to imagine the revolutionaries setting fire to this precious device. But so they did. The Feld Playback Experiment vanished into the fires of '07.

Trant Heidelstam is a character in Disco Elysium.

Background[]

Heidelstam is a civilian consultant[1] for the RCM Major Crimes Unit. He is a well-traveled man who has also worked in Oranje, at the exhibition at the Wompty-Dompty-Dom Centre in Vredefort, working with Paul Ockermann, head curator at the time, and twins Keith and Guy Joost.[2] As of the year '51 he's been working on a special assignment from Precinct 41 under Harrier Du Bois.[citation needed] After Harrier Du Bois suffered a psychotic break and lost his memories, he aids Jean Vicquemare in evaluating Harrier's mental state and his ability to lead the MCU.[3]

While in Martinaise, he also takes the opportunity to visit landmarks with his son, Mikael Heidelstam, such as the historic Feld building in Land's End.

Interactions[]

  • Trant is referred to in the damaged ledger as "special consultant TH".[4]
    • While reading THE UNSOLVABLE CASE, Harry notes that it's clear TH was too busy with more important cases to deal with Burke and Leslie.[4]
  • Trant can be encountered from Day 3 on at the Feld building. He offers a lot of information on FELD and its history, as well as pointers that can help the detectives figure out where Ruby is hiding.
    • Talking to Trant can unlock the Wompty-Dompty Dom Centre thought.
    • One of the dialogue branches reveals that Trant spends 4 hours a day practicing a martial art called Lo Manthang stick fighting[5][6], which he has been doing for nearly 20 years.[7]
    • The same dialogue branch reveals that Trant has previously experienced a pyrholidon addiction.[8]
  • His final appearance is after returning from the Sea Fortress, where he participates in the end debriefing and evaluation. He is quite sympathetic to Harry and will help overcome Jean's bitterness, especially if Harry brings the Phasmid's photo along to prove the discovery of a new species.
    • During the dialogue branch where you confront Trant about being a special consultant you can learn that Trant shares custody of Mikael with Mikael's mother, implying that Trant is not in a romantic or sexual relationship with Mikael's mother.[9]
    • Trant will comment that you setting the aero-graffito on fire as a poetic gesture is a "good choice".[10]

DAMAGED LEDGER – It's plain to see from the files that you, Satellite-Officer JV, and special consultant TH had more important cases to attend to. You uncover cross-reference to several ongoing investigations, each brought to a standstill every time you drive down Main Street. Because there they are! On the corner of Perdition, and what is Leslie doing?

  7. TRANT HEIDELSTAM – "Lo Manthang stick fighting is a little like a pyrholidon addiction," he explains with a little smile. "I've been practising it for nearly 20 years now, so you could say that my doses have grown a little... peculiar."

  8. ELECTROCHEMISTRY [Medium: Success] – Wait. What does this man know about pyrholidon addiction?

YOU – "I can assure you -- *nothing* in this world comes even close to being addicted to this devil.”

TRANT HEIDELSTAM – "Oh, I know, detective." He chuckles, but a shadow takes hold of his pallid face -- what does he mean that he *knows*?

AUTHORITY [Medium: Success] – Here's a former junkie. I can recognize one when I see it.

  9. TRANT HEIDELSTAM – "I sent him home," he responds calmly. "Mikael is with his mother. We share custody."

  10. JEAN VICQUEMARE – "Speaking of which. The giant *aero-graffito* in front of the building. The one that's *burning* -- did you do that?”

YOU – "Yeah, I lit it on fire. It was a poetic gesture.”

JEAN VICQUEMARE – "I knew it. Didn't I tell you, Trant? I told you it was our shitkid."

TRANT HEIDELSTAM – "The line is from Lu Jiatun's 'Mirova 82', isn't it? About Girl Child Communism -- the titular *returning* character. The ghostly apparition of..." He looks around and, noticing the impatience of his companions, stops himself. "Good choice, Harry."
